Save the world with enviro-tech camps

At the Institute we have a plan to change the world for good. We host schools who want to help with our mission. We think that through innovation, leadership and a wee bit of technology we can invent the world we want to live in. Just watch!

The camp, originally Karioi Lodge, was established in 1974 by a group of Huntly school teachers wanting to inspire kids with outdoor education. We are continuing the legacy and have transformed the camp into an enviro-tech camp.

We have workshops for groups where we teach technology skills with an environmental context. Growing food, generating electricity, tracking pests, measuring the health of our environment. These activities are available for any school group who wants to get outdoors but still learn technology skills at the same time.

The camp can cater for groups of up to 80 at a time, with two camps per week. We offer fully catered and self catered options.

History

The Huntly Karioi Trust initially built the lodge in 1974 as a school camp. Years later and it still retains the essential characteristics that make it an awesome outdoor camp experience. In 2019 the camp was “re-booted” as an enviro-tech camp, blending the old school camp experience with technology learning. Send your school or community group to stay at the lodge and work on enviro-tech projects in the centre, the 100 acres of bush on the property and in the natural beauty of the Raglan surrounds.
